“Some people become cops because they want to make the world a better place. Some people become vandals because they want to make the world a better looking place.” ― Banksy, Wall and Piece (Banksy. Banksy Wall and Piece. London: Century, 2005. Print).
In Melbourne, we can see that street art is one of the fastest and up coming places in which street art is developing as a culture. Throughout Melbourne you can see traces of street art. But in Melbourne’s CBD, the stars of street art shine the brightest. It is always nice to go around the city and find hidden pieces, however to gain the real essence of Melbourne’s street art culture you have to go to the places that are well known and established. In the CBD you have places like Drewery Lane, Caledonian Lane, Union Lane, Hosier Lane, and ACDC Lane. All the places are filled with the best work from the best street artists from all around the world. They’re many different types of great artworks in these places. But in my eyes the most captivating and engaging are the different murals that are done. Each mural has its own story and each mural could convey a different story to a different person, which is what makes them so amazing. Melbourne’s street art is vast and luscious but the best way to understand it is, by picking a location and really studying it for all it’s got. This is the Melbourne Street Art Star Tour, seeing the best that Melbourne has to offer.
