Windsor Siding Mural
Text
On the back wall of the National Storage building in Union Street, next to Windsor Siding is a series of large murals. The company commissioned a cohort of artists to create these murals in an attempt to discourage tagging. The positives of a commissioned piece like this is that street artists have an opportunity to work on a huge blank canvas and to do so in an environment that is supportive of their work. Of course there is a counter argument to this commissioning. While the artist may enjoy working in an environment that is supportive and therefore may enhance their work, others would argue that it subverts the anti authoritarian and the illegal that is a central theme of graffiti.
