The Style Machine
Text
In 1992 as part of a community project in Prahran, graffiti artists Duel, Pest and Mars collaborated to create a mural on the side of the Windsor train line. The original mural involved the use of kaleidoscopic colours and geometric lettering. Now 22 years later, while the original scope of the graffiti has still been retained, the artwork has evolved and changed over the two decades. Aesthetically, the colouring of the paint has significantly deteriorated and the mural now appears to blend into its surrounding environment. Originally this mural would have been a prominent feature of this particular landscape. Even though the mural was part of a community project, parts of the mural have been altered; for example, the lettering at the bottom of the mural, therefore it becomes an evolving work; a fundamental ideal of street art.
