Phoenix Street Skate Park

Painting over graffiti only produces a blank canvas, inviting graffiti artists to continue to recreate art. For those opposed, in order to avoid this tedious, re occurring cycle, both individuals and local councils have commissioned artists to create works of art for both public and private spaces.

Stoninngton City council strived to eliminate the amount of graffiti in it’s suburb by offering anyone between the ages of 12-17 years to participate in a series of street art in the suburb of Windsor. One of the commissioned pieces was the mural created at Phoenix Street Skate Park. While the outcome of the mural stays true to the traditional graffiti form; vivid colours and bold letter writing, it is aesthetically fitting for the skate park culture. Thus it is not compromising the concept of street art.
