Stop 5: Smith St

We have travelled through time to reach our final stop and explored the story of artists from the city to Collingwood and everything in between.

Street art, at this stop, is less and less about aesthetic value and more about political charge and protest. Artists make their feelings known by using a more unauthorized kind of graffiti, tagging the apartment building advertisements and random spots on the street. There are hardly any murals to be spotted.

The frequency of graffiti fades as you move more into Collingwood. This could be signifying a change in attitudes towards Street Art. Maybe the artists are tired of having to constantly move and have decided to focus more on building a standard of living as compared to spending time doing street art, which bore no financial benefits. Maybe the very motivation to create street art dissipated, or maybe no one valued their work and so they didn’t bother creating art anymore.
