Wesgarth

Westgarth is another 'bohemian' style area which features not a great deal of graffiti style artwork (It is definitley still around, down almost every street) but rather features architecturally interesting building which due to age are peeling and fading. This leads to buildings that in themselves are street art. Dominating the area is the old Westgarth Cinema. The way graffiti can be seen compared to the other areas discussed allows an observation of how those that live there react to this art form as you need to be almost looking for it to see. The bits that are visible share an interesting theme of political motivation. Presenting the idea that the area shifts towards functional art that has blatant meaning; suggesting maybe snobbery towards graffiti and other forms of street art. Experience this for yourself.

Next head up Ruckers Hill(along High Street) into Northcote.
